FAQs
What is the right distance from the light, and how long should one red light therapy session be?
We recommend a 15 - 50 cm distance per illuminated area for 10 - 20 minutes.
The greater the distance from the body, the lower the irradiation power and the longer the time required. However, the longer the distance, the larger the illuminated area.
What time of day can I use red light therapy?
Red light therapy can be used at any time during the day. The most common time is in the morning, but you can also use it before or after your workout.
Is it possible to perform multiple therapy sessions in one day?
Red light therapy can be used several times a day. If the same body part is repeatedly illuminated, we recommend a maximum of 30 minutes per day. This period of time should be divided into 2 or 3 therapy sessions.
Does it make sense to use red light therapy in the summertime?
There are a lot of uses and benefits of red light therapy also during summertime.
What can I use red light therapy for?
Red light therapy is famous for its positive effect on sex hormones. Both men and women can get the best results by illuminating the crotch - that’s where most of the sex hormones are created. At the same time, however, it is not desirable to expose your intimate parts to sunlight due to the potentially negative effect of UV radiation and excessive heating of these parts.
One of the less known but important benefits of using red light therapy in the morning is that red and near-infrared light essentially prepares the skin for UV radiation, which is emitted by the sun and compensates for its potentially negative effect. This way, the skin becomes more resistant to sunburn.
The targeted use for sports recovery and improving performance are more ways to benefit from red light therapy. This includes muscle recovery, recovery of joints, ligaments, tendons, and other connective tissues. This kind of therapy can be used to accelerate the recovery of the mentioned tissues and speed up the healing of possible injuries.
We personally use MITO LIGHT for these great effects all year round. :)
How does red light therapy compare to spending time in the sun?
We typically don’t have the time or space we need to spend enough time in the sun with no clothes on - especially on weekdays. Red light therapy is a fast and convenient method for home use. It basically works as a concentrated form of beneficial light wavelengths that are absorbed by the body in a short period of time. In addition, even in spring or summer, many days can be cloudy or rainy (summer storms are a typical example). Apart from that, some of us don’t even get to experience all four seasons.
Can I overdose on light?
In photobiomodulation, there is something called "biphasic dose response". This means that too low a dose of light does not have enough effect, the ideal dose has the maximum effect, and too high a dose loses the positive effect again. We therefore recommend that you follow our recommendations: a distance of approx. 15 - 50 cm per illuminated area for 10 - 20 minutes.
In addition, everyone may react differently, so you need to monitor your individual reactions and adjust the distance or time of therapy according to your needs.
Can I look into the light, or should my eyes be closed?
Always keep your eyes closed during use. For a positive effect on the eyes and vision, you can keep your eyes closed as the light will penetrate through the eyelids. However, some people are more sensitive to light of strong intensity and find it uncomfortable even with their eyes closed. For these purposes, we put protective goggles in the package. Consult your doctor about the need for protective glasses.
Can I use red light therapy in the evening?
Yes, but make sure that the red light isn’t directed at your eyes (even if they’re closed) approximately 2 to 3 hours before bedtime, or make sure to use only the invisible NIR spectrum.
Why are there safety goggles in the package?
Some people are more sensitive to light of strong intensity, and it's uncomfortable for them to use red light therapy even with their eyes closed. For this reason, we put safety goggles in the package.
The second option for the use of the safety goggles is the evening use of phototherapy.
What is the difference between the RED spectrum and the NIR one?
The red (RED) spectrum is absorbed more superficially, mostly through the skin or hair. This makes it very effective in giving you a healthy and youthful appearance.
The near-infrared spectrum (NIR) can penetrate the subcutaneous tissue to a depth of several centimeters. It reaches various organs, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments or even the brain.
Should the RED and NIR spectra be used together or separately?
Both are most often used together as they work synergistically. However, it’s also possible to use them separately. During evening therapy sessions, it's better to go with the NIR invisible spectrum, which doesn't have a stimulating effect.
How can I use red light therapy to improve sports performance?
We recommend using it before a sports performance. The ideal way is to illuminate the muscle areas that will be the most involved during the performance.
How can I use red light therapy for recovery?
To reach the maximum effect, it's best to use red light therapy during the hours directly following a sports performance. It's ideal to illuminate the muscle areas that were the most involved during the performance.
Do red light devices radiate heat?
The near-infrared light radiates mild, pleasant heat.
What is the difference between MITO LIGHT® red light devices and a classic infrared lamp?
A classic infrared lamp contains a different spectrum of wavelengths, mainly generating a lot of heat, which is also its main effect. The red and near-infrared wavelengths (IR-A) represent just a small percentage of the radiated energy. The most common wavelengths range from the mid and far-infrared spectrum (IR-B) to the far-infrared spectrum (IR-C). These spectra don’t go so deep into the body. IR-B penetrates the top layer of the skin, and IR-C heats the skin's surface.
MITO LIGHT red light devices, on the other hand, emit red and near-infrared wavelengths (IR-A) of highly concentrated intensity. The red spectrum is mainly absorbed by the skin and is essential for healthy and youthful skin. The near-infrared spectrum (IR-A) has a unique ability to penetrate the subcutaneous tissue to a depth of several centimeters. Both of these wavelengths are absorbed in mitochondria. As a result, mitochondria are more efficient at producing energy in the form of ATP, which the body then uses for all its vital functions.
What is the difference between MITO LIGHT® red light devices and an infrared sauna?
An infrared sauna contains a different spectrum of wavelengths, mainly generating a lot of heat, which is also its main effect. Infrared saunas mostly use wavelengths ranging from the mid and far-infrared spectrum (IR-B) to the far-infrared spectrum (IR-C). These spectra don't go so deep into the body.
Both of these wavelengths are absorbed in the mitochondria. As a result, mitochondria are more efficient at producing energy in the form of ATP, which the body then uses for all its vital functions.
How can light increase my energy?
Red and near-infrared light increases the number of mitochondria in the body and also makes their work more efficient. Mitochondria are, simply put, powerhouses of the cells producing energy in the form of ATP. When we have more ATP, we have more energy.
Do red light devices increase the amount of vitamin D in the body?
Vitamin D is synthesized in the body through the use of UV radiation, which our devices don't emit. Thus, there is no increase in vitamin D.
Why are half of the LEDs off?
These in fact emit the invisible near-infrared light. Our eyes can't see it - similar to UV light, which is at the opposite end of the visible spectrum.
Do I have to worry about MITO LIGHT® products flickering?
Our eyes and cells can register flicker that is not visible to the naked eye, and it can stress them to some extent. It can cause sensitive individuals to experience headaches or fatigue. MITO LIGHT products do not flicker. This can be easily verified by turning on the camera on your phone and pointing it directly at the light source.
Can children use red light therapy?
Children have the same mitochondria as adults. The use is, therefore, very similar. We just recommend shorter therapy sessions and greater distances from the panel. In general, we recommend 5 to 15 minutes from a distance of 25 to 50 centimeters for children. The greater the distance from the body, the longer it is necessary to use the light. The bigger the distance, the greater the illuminated area.
Can red light therapy be used during pregnancy?
Red light therapy can also be used during pregnancy (after consulting with your physician). When illuminating the abdomen, we recommend a bigger distance from the panel when using the NIR spectrum (at least 30 to 50 centimeters) due to the produced heat.
Dr. Michael Hamblin, a professor at Harvard Medical School and one of the world's leading scientists in light therapy, believes that RED/NIR therapy can be very beneficial to both the mother and the baby during pregnancy due to the prevalence of stem cells.
Are MITO LIGHT® red light devices safe?
Their safety is guaranteed by the CE and RoHS certifications that our products have. We also offer a three-year warranty on all our devices, so there is nothing to worry about. In addition, we provide a 30-day money back guarantee. The LED technology using red and near-infrared light is safe, as evidenced by thousands of scientific studies. Our devices do not emit any potentially harmful UV radiation or excessive heat.
What is the lifespan of MITO LIGHT® devices?
Thanks to the fact that our panels pride themselves on high-quality LED technology, their lifespan is excellent: up to 50,000 hours. The recommended 30 minutes a day takes the lifespan to up to 274 years. So no worries!
How does the money back guarantee work?
If you're not satisfied with your red light device for any reason, you can return it to us. We offer a 30-day trial period on all MITO LIGHT products. Detailed information can be found on the Complaints and Returns page.
